INTICO started operating in Melbourne in late 1975. A small team of energetic guys soon began to exert their influence by performing “jobbing work” around the industrial centres of Victoria. In late 1976, Intico expanded its operations into South Australia, again primarily serving the local industry on a “jobbing work” basis.
First pipeline involvement was, in fact, not until 1978 when a contract for radiographic examination of 24 kilometres, 180mm diameter gas pipeline from Deer Park to Sunbury, Victoria, was won. This set the stage for Intico’s participation in pipeline construction providing N.D.T. and inspection services during construction of the Loy Yang Power Station; a contract which was renewed a number of times. In 1982, Intico extended services into more specialised areas of N.D.T. using latest high tech equipment specifically designed for in-situ and on-stream condition monitoring. This has proven to be a valuable extension to general N.D.T. In 1984, Intico strode further afield with the acquisition of Metal Inspection Services in Queensland and, about the same time as the establishment of a Hong Kong branch.
