Plant Failure & Life Assesment
Plant failures, integrity and life issues are not restricted to or governed by outages. Having a local presence, supported by a national network of professional and technical staff, we can respond in a timely manner with the appropriate resources.
Typically, a plant failure of noteworthy magnitude, which would require failure analysis and additional services, may involve all or some of the following. Intico have staff that can undertake all aspects of this work:
- Site inspection and NDT to determine the nature and extent of the damage.
- Site sampling and sample preservation for metallurgical analysis.
- Site photography for documentation and to assist in the investigation.
- Developing a repair plan – especially with regard to repair method – usually welding.
- Scoping and implementing follow-up work such as strain and temperature monitoring to determine or validate the source of the loading that caused the damage.
- Metallurgical analysis of the failure. (Including material ID, fracture surface examination, micro structural assessment, cause determination)
- Engineering analysis of the failure. (Including review of design, determination of stresses, review of operational data, fitness for service assessment. May include FEA and defect tolerance assessment).
- Recommendations for actions and / or future work.
- Weld procedure development.
- Supervision of repair.
- Post-repair inspection.
- Assessment of remaining or future service life.
