Before joining Bureau Veritas I was a fly-in/fly-out Graduate Chemist stationed at a mine site fire assay laboratory in the Western Australian Goldfields. As shift supervisor, I supervised a small team of lab technicians. I decided to join Bureau Veritas as I saw it as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry in a global company with a competitive edge.
I began working for Bureau Veritas at Ultra Trace in Perth, WA. My first role was a Lab Technician in the Digest Laboratory before I moved into the ICP-MS department as an Instrument Operator. After three years I became a QC/QA Technician. I spent two years as the Supervisor of the ICP-MS department where I also completed a Diploma of Business course provided by Bureau Veritas. I am now a Senior Chemist at Ultra Trace Geoanalytical and as a side role I am assisting the Global Technical Manager in providing support for mineral labs in the Africa zone, which includes spending time on site at our labs in Africa.
Before joining Bureau Veritas (Amdel) I had just completed my honours degree in Marine Science. A Graduate Chemist role with Amdel was advertised, which I applied for and won. I’m still with Amdel 7 years later, and never predicted the amount of opportunity that would be presented to me. I was initially employed as a Chemist, after 2 years I was managing the ICPMS division of a laboratory. From there I moved into program management, acting as the program coordinator for a key client account between our Adelaide Geoanalytical and Mineral Processing divisions. It was at that stage I was offered the position of Quality Manager of Adelaide, and that has progressed to Quality Manager for the Minerals East division.
I have had many rewarding experiences at Bureau Veritas Amdel, but it is the people I work with, and the new opportunities and challenges that are continually presented to me that keep me coming to work every day.
I joined Bureau Veritas (formerly CCI Pope Pty Ltd) as a Condition Monitoring Technician in 2002. Since then I have been presented with many opportunities to advance my professional skills and management career, completing the Advanced Diploma in Technical Engineering and management development training.
My most rewarding experience at Bureau Veritas has been the opportunity to take up a management position. In December 2009 I was appointed to the role of Manager of the Newcastle Business Unit for our Asset Integrity Operations, where I was responsible for the financial, technical, quality and safety performance of the Business Unit. I was part of a fantastic team of people who achieved some great results in 2010. Bureau Veritas walks the talk when it comes to recognising success and providing new challenges, having since been promoted to a larger role managing the North Western Australia office for the Asset Integrity & Reliability Services Division.
